Kanga USA is proud to offer Kangas:101 USES by Jeannette Handby and David Bygott. This fun paperback book is a tribute to the East African Kanga. The Kanga is that colorful fabric you see in the pictures, it is a pattered fabric which is printed in repeating panels, each containing a Swahili proverb or statement.
The author Jeanette and her husband David were conducting research in Tanzania in 1974. Since then Jeanette has been leading educational safaris in East Africa, most recently with National Geographic Expeditions.
Kangas: 101 USES beginning with how to knot and tie several different dresses using one or two kanga. Then it goes on to demonstrate head wraps, turbans, swim suits and halters and ends with lots of other creative uses for a Kanga.
HariaStamp in Nairobi holds the exclusive publishing rights for KANGAS: 101 USES. Hariah Stamp is a retail shop on Biashara Street. It is a delightful shop full of brightly colored fabrics. Be sure to ask for Pushpendra Shah. He has lots of fascinating stories about color and fabric will delight you so allow plenty of time to chat. You can email him at firstname.lastname@example.org
In addition to the book, Jeannette also developed a bright and cheery line of Kanga greeting cards.
A wonderful gift package might be a Kanga, a copy of the book and a packet of greeting cards.
